Welcome

As Wychwood, we like to call ourselves the world’s first “blackgrass” band. We play old murder-ballads and generally dark or strange traditional folk songs, with some bright and sentimental spots thrown in for contrast. Some days we’re acoustic purists. Some days we like to corrupt traditional folksongs with elements of black metal, ambient, and noise music, in an attempt to make folk music dangerous again.

At our concerts you can expect dusty vocal harmonies backed by banjo, guitar, and fiddle, along with a smorgasbord of other instruments – accordion, saw, harmonica, bass, glockenspiel, dream ukulele, and probably some other instruments we either can’t remember or have picked up since writing this.

In an attempt to make folk music dangerous again, all these acoustic instruments may or may not be run through biting distortion, dreamy reverb, and other effects.
